NYK and Geogas hand over LNG newbuild to Edison

A joint venture consisting of NYK and Geogas LNG has delivered a newbuild LNG carrier to energy group Edison, controlled by France’s EDF.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Samho Industries handed over the 174,000-cbm Elisa Aquila owned by France LNG Shipping and chartered by Edison on Thursday, according to a statement by NYK.

The new vessel features GTT’s cargo containment system, WinGD’s X-DF engines, and an Air Liquide–manufactured Turbo-Brayton refrigeration system that can tap surplus boil-off gas.

Elisa Aquila is the second vessel France LNG Shipping chartered to the EDF group on a long-term basis following the delivery of Elisa Larus in May 2020.

French vessel manager Gazocean, owned by NYK and Geogas LNG, manages both of these vessels.

EDF’s unit chartered the 297 meters long Elisa Aquila for up to 20 years including extension options.

Besides these two vessels, the JV signed a deal for another vessel with EDF in January this year.
