Peninsula, MSC Cruises in first Cadiz LNG bunkering op

Marine fuel supplier Peninsula and MSC’s cruise division have completed what they say is the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation to a cruise vessel in the Spanish port of Cadiz.

MSC Euribia became the first cruise ship to be fueled with LNG at Cadiz during the vessel’s first visit to the Spanish port, according to MSC Cruises.

Peninisula bunkered the cruise vessel with the 12,500-cbm Levante, which previously completed bunkering operations in the Spanish port of Algericas and in Gibraltar.

The 331 meters long cruise ship took LNG fuel ahead of its 13-night voyage to Hamburg, Germany with visits en route to the Canary Islands, Morocco, Madeira, Portugal, and the UK, MSC Cruises said.

MSC Euribia is the second LNG-powered for MSC Cruises after MSC World Europa.

The unit of Switzerland-based shipping giant held a naming ceremony for MSC Euribia, in the Danish capital on June 8.

In November 2023, MSC Cruises also confirmed orders for two more LNG-powered vessels with France’s Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
