Samskip adds LNG-powered trucks to its fleet

Rotterdam-based logistics firm Samskip is introducing new LNG-powered trucks in its fleet as it looks to further reduce emissions throughout the entire supply chain.

In that regard, Samskip has joined forces with Polish transport firm Don Trucking for five LNG-powered Iveco trucks. The latter operates a fleet of such vehicles.

Samskip sees the scaled-up use of sustainable fueling alternatives as opening a pathway for shippers seeking to reduce CO2 emissions in their supply chain while transporting cargo by road.

The firm said this new partnership with Don Trucking is the first of “many partnerships to come and to rapidly add more LNG-powered trucks to the companies’ fleet.”

“We are committed to provide our customers with shipping options that are aligned with their corporate and social responsibility objectives,’’ Frédéric Leca, chief operating officer, at Samskip, said.

’’We acknowledge that it is increasingly important to be able to offer customers a new way of doing business with us. Further enhancing the use of LNG in our network is a combination that our customers in regional and long haulage require,” Leca said.

Last year, Samskip partnered with Finland’s Gasum for its two LNG-powered vessels, namely Samskip Kvitbjorn and Samskip Kvitnos.

The partnership allows Samskip to bunker LNG in Risavika, Norway, as the Risavika LNG plant is located just 200 meters from the quayside.

Samskip Kvitbjorn and Samskip Kvitnos work between Rotterdam and Norway, traveling all the way to Europe’s most northern town Hammerfest.
