Eastern Pacific Shipping takes delivery of LNG-powered bulker in China

China’s New Times Shipbuilding said it had delivered an LNG-powered bulk carrier to Idan Ofer’s Eastern Pacific Shipping.

The vessel in question is the 210,000-dwt bulk carrier, Mount Gaea.

New Times said in a statement it handed over the LNG dual-fuel bulk carrier on November 15.

According to the Chinese yard, it is building in total eleven 210,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel bulk carriers for EPS and this is the third vessel in this batch.

The official website of EPS shows that the firm has in total 13 LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers on order and scheduled for delivery between 2022 and 2024.

Earlier this year, EPS took delivery of the 209,000-dwt Mount Tourmaline and the 209,000-dwt, Mount Nova Terra, the first and second LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers in its fleet.

China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a part of CSSC, built these two ships which serve Australian miner BHP under long-term charters.

The newly delivered Mount Gaea will also serve BHP to transport iron ore between Western Australia and Asia

BHP has chartered in total five LNG-fueled Newcastlemax bulk carriers from EPS for five years and awarded the LNG fuel contract to Shell.
