Gasum boosting LNG bunkering business in ARA region

Finland’s Gasum is looking to boost its LNG bunkering business in the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp region with a new move.

Gasum’s chartered LNG bunkering vessel Kairos would from now work only in the ARA region as part of the firm’s strategy to expand its maritime services in northwest Europe, Gasum said on Monday.

Previously, the 5,800-cbm Kairos had been operating in the North Sea and Baltic Sea and only sailed to the ARA area upon request, the firm said.

The new location of Kairos enables Gasum to deliver bunkers of LNG to its clients in northern Europe “whenever they have the need.”

“We are very happy to have Kairos in the ARA. Through this we are constantly present in the region and can better cater the needs of our old and new LNG customers in the maritime segment,” says Gasum’s Jacob Granqvist, VP maritime.

Gasum has last year signed a deal with Norwegian energy giant Equinor to supply the latter’s chartered vessels in the ARA region.

The deal also marked an expansion for Gasum extending its geographical area from the Nordics to the ARA region.

It has also recently completed its first LNG bunkering operation in France with the Kairos.

Gasum’s fleet currently includes five chartered vessels, namely Coralius, Kairos, Coral EnergICE, Coral Energy, and Seagas, according to its website.
