GSI secures more orders for LNG-powered PCTCs

China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) said it had secured new orders to build LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers for South Korea’s H-Line Shipping and China’s BYD Group.

The two LNG dual-fuel PCTS for H-Line will have a capacity of 8,600 units, GSI said in a statement on Monday.

H-Line previously ordered four LNG dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of about 7,000 units at the CSSC-owned yard.

GSI also said in the statement that H-Line last year ordered one PCTC with a capacity of 8,600 units and all of these ships will go on charter to Hyudai Glovis.

The 8,600-ceu vessels will have an overall length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a design draft of 9.2 meters and a design speed of 19 knots.

GSI did not provide any additional information.

With this, GSI confirmed reports by brokers issued in October last year regarding these 8,600-ceu PCTCs.

VesselsValue data shows that H-Line has in total seven dual-fuel PCTCs on order at GSI.

The three 8,600-ceu vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026 and are each worth about $98 million, according to the data.

BYD order

Besides the H-Line order, GSI said it had secured an order from China’s BYD Group to build two LNG dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of 7,000 units.

The vessels will have an overall length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a design draft of 9 meters, and design speed of 18.5 knots, according to GSI.

VesselsValue data shows that BYD will take delivery of these vessels in 2025.

With these contracts, GSI said it now has in total 19 LNG dual-fuel PCTCs on order.
