LNG-fueled MSC Olbia delivered in China

China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has handed over the LNG dual-fuel containership, MSC Verona, to Switzerland-based shipping giant MSC.

Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a unit of Yangzijiang, delivered the vessel to MSC on Monday and the vessel left the yard on Wednesday.

This is MSC’s third LNG dual-fuel containership in a new series of vessels with a capacity of 16,000 teu, according to Yangzijiang.

The shipbuilder recently delivered the second vessel in this batch, MSC Verona.

In October 2022, Yangzijiang secured an order to build twelve LNG-powered containerships with a capacity of 16,000 teu for MSC.

Earlier the same year, Yangzijiang delivered the first LNG dual-fuel containership in MSC’s fleet, MSC Washington.

MSC is building a huge fleet of LNG dual-fuel containerships.

Yangzijiang said last month that it had secured orders for 32 LNG dual-fuel and 17 methanol dual-fuel containerships this year.

Earlier this month, Yangzijiang also announced new orders for 21 vessels, with a total contract value of $2.63 billion.

The new orders include a contract for six LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 17,000 teu.

Danish shipping giant Maersk booked these vessels.
