P&O Cruises’ LNG-powered Iona departs on maiden voyage

Carnival Corporation’s P&O Cruises said its LNG-powered flagship Iona has left Southampton on its maiden voyage.

P&O Cruises said Iona left the port on Saturday for a 7-night cruise around the UK coast.

To remind, Meyer Werft delivered the LNG-powered vessel to the UK-based cruise operator in October but it waited for its debut for a long time due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Iona, claimed to be the first British LNG-powered cruise vessel, is 345 meters long and has 17 guest decks.

The luxury liner can accommodate up to 5,200 passengers, making it one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

Besides Iona, Meyer Werft is also building a sister ship. The LNG-powered vessel named Arvia should join the P&O Cruises fleet by the end of 2022.
