Croatia’s Krk terminal receives another US LNG cargo

Croatia’s FSRU-based Krk LNG import facility, operated by state-owned LNG Croatia, has received another cargo of liquefied natural gas from the US, according to shipping data.

The 2013-built 155,000-cbm, GasLog Sydney, arrived at the 140,000-cbm FSRU on March 9 and departed from the unit two days later, according to a statement by LNG Croatia.

LNG Croatia said this is the FSRU-based terminal’s 57th LNG shipment since its launch in January 2021.

GasLog Sydney’s AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows that the LNG carrier, owned by GasLog Partners and chartered by Naturgy, delivered the cargo to the FSRU from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG plant in Louisiana.

The Croatian FSRU mainly receives LNG volumes from the US.

It also received shipments from Egypt, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Mozambique, and reloads from Dunkirk, Zeebrugge, and Barcelona.

Some of the terminal users include a unit Switzerland-based trading firm MET Group and Hungary’s MFGK.

European LNG demand spiked since February last year as European countries look to boost energy security and replace pipeline gas supplies.

Due to high demand, Croatia also decided to further increase the capacity of its FSRU-based LNG import terminal to 6.1 bcm.

Last month, US LNG exporting giant Cheniere said it exported record 638 LNG cargoes from its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi plants during 2022, compared to 566 in 2021.

Cheniere said it was the number one supplier of LNG to Europe last year and more than 70 percent of these shipments landed in Europe.
