CSSC’s Jiangnan said in a statement that the ceremony, attended by officials from Shell, Cospo Shipping Energy and its unit Cosco Shipping LNG Investment (Shanghai), and others, took place on June 25.
The four 175,000-cbm LNG carriers are equipped with the latest WinGD XDF 2.2 main engines—which use LNG as the primary fuel and integrate iCER and VCR technologies—low-methane-escape generators, optimized shaft-driven generators, and a reliquefaction system, according to Jiangnan.
Jiangnan did not provide further details regarding the shipbuilding deal.
Earlier this month, CSET announced the order for the four LNG carriers.
The four LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030.
According to CSET, the order is worth 6.445 billion yuan ($953 million), or approximately $238 million per vessel.
However, this price likely includes additional costs, as shipbuilding sources said each LNG carrier is expected to cost approximately $220 million.
Upon delivery, the LNG carriers will serve charter deals with Shell Tankers (Singapore) for a term of seven years.
The charter deals also include an option and are worth approximately 5.4 billion yuan ($798 million), CSET said.
