LNG carrier Golar Gandria sold for demolition

Floating LNG player Golar LNG has sold its 1977-built LNG carrier, Golar Gandria, for demolition, according to brokers.

The 125,000-cbm vessel has been sold on ‘as is’ basis in Labuan, Malaysia, several reports by brokers said.

The reports suggest that the price tag is about $15.3 million, or $447 per ldt.

Allied said that an Indian buyer purchased the ship, saying that it would be delivered in September once the Monsoon season has passed.

Tor Olav Troim-led Golar LNG previously planned to convert this vessel to a floating LNG producer.

The company’s CEO Karl Fredrik Staubo said last year that the company could also use its old LNG carrier Gandria for its third conversion project.

However, Golar said in February this year that it secured an option to acquire a 2004-built 148,000-cbm Moss-type LNG carrier which it aims to convert to a floating LNG producer.

The firm recently joined forces with state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp to install a floating LNG production unit in Nigeria.

Golar currently owns the 2.4 mtpa Hilli FLNG located in Cameroon and the 2.5 mtpa Gimi FLNG currently under conversion at Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard.

Gimi is expected to start serving BP’s Tortue FLNG project offshore Mauritania and Senegal under a 20-year charter deal in the fourth quarter of 2023.
