Wartsila to support Nakilat’s LNG carriers

Finland’s Wartsila has signed five-year agreements with Qatar’s Nakilat to support the latter’s LNG carriers.

The engine maker and the world’s largest LNG shipper signed the deal in April, according to a Wartsila statement on Thursday.

Moreover, Wartsila said it has previously supplied all the LNG reliquefaction systems installed onboard Nakilat’s Q-Flex vessels covered by the new deals.

Under the contract terms, the Finnish firm said it would provide 24/7 technical remote support for the vessels’ onboard gas process plants.

“As the global leader in energy transportation, the efficiency and reliability of our reliquefaction systems is a key element to efficient cargo-handling operations and vessels serviceability to the customer,” Nakilat chief operating officer Samir Bailouni said in the statement.

He added that such support deals give the assurance that the reliquefaction systems operate safely and optimally within plant design parameters, thereby ensuring the integrity of Nakilat’s global operations.

Following the delivery of two LNG newbuilds this year, Nakilat’s fleet will increase to 74 vessels. These include four LPG carriers but also one FSRU.
