FlixBus launches biogas-powered buses

Germany’s FlixBus, a unit of FlixMobility, is introducing biogas-powered buses on two long-distance routes as it looks to reduce emissions.

The bio-LNG and bio-CNG buses would start operating from July 1, according to a statement by FlixBus on Tuesday.

Moreover, the vehicles will operate on long-distance routes between Amsterdam and Brussels and Oslo and Stockholm.

“Biogas is already a viable alternative to fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel and competes with technologies such as electricity and hydrogen as a modern power source,” the firm said.

For the route between the capitals of Sweden and Norway, Flixbus said it has teamed up with Gasum which operates a network of LNG and LBG filling stations in both of the countries. FlixBus will use a Scania LNG-powered bus for this route.

The Iveco bus between the Netherlands and Belgium will go on bio-CNG while OrangeGas will supply the fuel from a plant near Amsterdam, Flixbus said.
