Hyundai Mipo delivers large LNG bunkering vessel to Korea Line

South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard said it has delivered a large LNG bunkering ship to compatriot Korea Line.

Hyundai Mipo handed over the 18,000-cbm K. Lotus on Wednesday. This vessel will go on charter to LNG giant Shell.

According to Hyundai Mipo, it would start operating next month in the Dutch Rotterdam port.

Hyundai Mipo says this is the world’s largest LNG bunkering ship. However, it has less capacity than the 20,000-cbm Hai Gang Wei Lai, previously known as Avenir Allegiance, or the 20,000-cbm Avenir Achievement, also chartered by Shell.

SM Group’s Korea Line ordered this LNG bunkering ship at the yard for about $62 million back in 2019.

The 166 meters long and 24.4 meters wide dual-fuel vessel features Wartsila’s LNG cargo handling and fuel system.

Besides this ship, Korea Line LNG, a unit of Korea Line, has ordered one additional bunkering vessel at Hyundai Mipo last year.

The yard should deliver this 18,000-cbm vessel worth about $62 million in 2023.
