Flex LNG to welcome 10th vessel

Norwegian shipping firm Flex LNG will soon add another vessel to its fleet boosting the total number of carriers in operation to ten.

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries will deliver the 174,000-cbm Flex Amber during October, according the firm controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen.

Flex said earlier this year it secured a short-term variable time charter for the vessel without providing further details.

Furthermore, the firm also signed a $156.4 million sale and leaseback transaction for the LNG carrier with an Asia-based leasing house.

Flex Amber features WinGD’s XD-F dual-fuel propulsion and GTT’s Mark III containment system. It also has a reliquefaction system with a boil-off rate of 0.085% per day.

This will be the fourth newbuild delivery for Flex in four months. The firm took delivery of Flex Aurora in July, followed by Flex Artemis in August, and Flex Resolute last month.

Additionally, another three LNG newbuilds will join the Flex fleet by the second quarter of 2021 for a total of thirteen carriers.
