US grants three more LNG export extensions

The US Department of Energy extended the terms of three long-term liquefied natural gas export authorizations through 2050.

These approvals follow seven LNG export term extensions issued last week pursuant to an export term policy statement DOE finalized in July.

The new term extensions include Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi LNG export terminals, operating in Louisiana and Texas, respectively.

Furthermore, DOE granted an extension to Sempra Energy’s Port Arthur LNG project proposed for Port Arthur, Texas.

These issuances extend each project’s export authorization to both free trade and non-free trade agreement countries through December 31, 2050.

The US is the top global producer of natural gas and is currently in its fourth consecutive year as a net exporter.

To date, US LNG exports have reached 38 countries across five continents, according to DOE.
