Cheniere to start commissioning third jetty at Sabine Pass LNG terminal

Cheniere is preparing to start commissioning activities of the third jetty project at its six-train 30 mtpa Sabine Pass LNG facility in Louisiana.

The company’s unit Sabine Pass LNG has submitted compliance documentation with the US FERC for the introduction of hydrocarbons associated with the third berth project.

“Sabine Pass is requesting authorization at the earliest date possible, but no later than August 26, 2022, in order to remain on schedule,” the firm said in a filling.

“Prior to commissioning, Sabine Pass shall file detailed plans and procedures for: testing the integrity of onsite mechanical installation; functional tests; introduction of hazardous fluids; operational tests; and placing the equipment into service,” it said.

According to the latest construction update filed with FERC, the third jetty project was 96.4 percent complete as of July this year.

Cheniere and compatriot engineer Bechtel are adding the third marine berth and supporting facilities to boost operating flexibility at the Sabine Pass LNG facility.

The jetty will have the capability to load LNG carriers with a capacity of 125,000-180,000 cubic meters.

It will increase the maximum number of calls by LNG carriers with a capacity of up to 180,000 cbm at the plant by 180 per year.

Cheniere said earlier this year that operations of the jetty could start by the end of 2022.

Besides the Sabine Pass plant, Cheniere recently took a final investment decision on Stage 3 expansion at its Corpus Christi LNG export plant in Texas.

The expansion will add about 10 mtpa to the three-train 15 mtpa Corpus Christi plant.

In addition, Cheniere’s CEO Jack Fusco recently said the company was working to add over 30 million tonnes of capacity at its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi plants.
