Philippine power producer First Gen and BW LNG, a unit of the Singapore-based gas giant BW, agreed to rename the 162,000-cbm FSRU BW Paris ahead of the launch of the Batangas LNG import terminal in 2023.
According to a statement by First Gen, the partners will rename the FSRU BW Batangas.
The firm controlled by the Lopez family last year awarded the five-year FSRU contract to BW, as it looks to replace declining volumes from the Malampaya gas field.
BW’s converted FSRU will serve the import facility at First Gen’s existing Batangas energy complex.
It will provide LNG storage and regasification services to First Gen’s existing and planned gas-fired power plants and other third-party terminal users.
First Gen says to complete LNG terminal construction in Q1 2023
Due to a delay in the completion of the facility, the two firms agreed in June to push back the delivery date of the FSRU from the first quarter of 2023 to the end of the second quarter or early in the third quarter 2023.
First Gen said in the new statement it expects to complete the construction works on the LNG import facility in the first quarter of 2023.
The firm still expects to deploy the chartered FSRU by the end of Q2 or early Q3 2023, it said.
The Philippines currently has no operational LNG import plants, but there are plans for several LNG facilities.
AG&P previously said that its facility in Batangas Bay would become the first LNG import in the Philippines following launch later this year.
