India’s UltraTech Cement deploys more LNG-powered trucks

India’s top cement maker, UltraTech Cement, has again teamed up with GreenLine to add LNG-powered trucks built by Blue Energy Motors to its fleet.

UltraTech deployed the new LNG-powered trucks at its bulk terminal located in Pune, Maharashtra, according to a statement issued by GreenLine last week.

This is the second deployment of GreenLine’s LNG-powered fleet of trucks for UltraTech, after the first deployment at its Awarpur cement works near Nagpur, the firm said.

The use of LNG trucks is a “significant step” towards achieving the company’s sustainability targets, GreenLine noted.

This development underscores UltraTech’s commitment to scaling up its LNG fleet at its plants across the country in the coming months, it said.

GreenLine said it has collaborated with multiple organizations to create India’s first and only “integrated green logistics ecosystem to make LNG trucking a reality in India.”

Prior to this move, Dalmia Cement teamed up with GreenLine for 35 LNG-fueled trucks, while JK Lakshmi Cement added ten LNG-powered trucks.

Pune-based Blue Energy Motors manufactured all of these trucks.

FPT Industrial, a unit of Italian truck manufacturer Iveco, signed a deal in July last year with Blue Energy Motors to supply engines for LNG-powered trucks.

After that, the two firms unveiled the first LNG truck powered by FPT’s 6.7-liter engine in September while Iveco also agreed to buy a stake in the Indian firm.

Blue Energy Motors recently said that FPT Industrial concluded the strategic investment.
