India to launch Kochi LNG pipeline

India is finally due to open Gail’s Kochi-Koottanad-Mangaluru 450-kilometres natural gas pipeline following years of delays.

The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the pipeline on Tuesday via a virtual event that will include Gail representatives and other officials.

Furthermore, the pipeline gives a big boost for Petronet LNG’s underused 5 mtpa Kochi terminal that awaited the completion of this project for years.

It connects the LNG facility in the Cochin Port in Kerala to the port city of Mangaluru in the state of Karnataka. Moreover, it passes through Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

The pipeline has a transportation capacity of 12 million metric standard cubic metres per day.
