Finnish tech firm Wartsila said it will supply its LNG dual-fuel engines for Accor’s two new sail-assisted luxury cruise ships.
In January, French hotel group Accor signed a letter of intent with compatriot Chantiers de l’Atlantique to order two ultra-luxury vessel that will combine wind power with an LNG-powered engine.
Warstila said in a statement on Thursday it will supply its recently introduced 25DF dual-fuel (LNG) engine for the two new sail-assisted luxury cruise ships.
The engine features a two stage turbocharging system, common rail fuel injection, and cylinder wise combustion control.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique is building the vessels for Orient Express Silenseas, part of the French hotel group, and the contract includes an option for an additional two vessels, according to Wartsila.
Wartsila booked the order in May 2023.
The full Wartsila scope includes for each vessel four Wartsila 25DF engines, each developing 2070 kW at 1000 rpm, four gas valve units, and four NOx reducer emission after-treatment systems.
Warstsila expects to start delivering the equipment to the shipyard in autumn 2024.
It did not provide the price tag of the deal.
The first of the 220 meters long vessels will be named the ‘Orient Express Silenseas’ and the ships are designed to accommodate about 116 passengers.
Accor previously said it expects the first ship to set sail in 2026.
