Stabilis seals LNG bunkering deal with Carnival

Houston-based small-scale LNG player Stabilis Solutions has secured a multi-year contract from cruise operator Carnival to provide LNG fuel for the latter’s newest vessel Carnival Jubilee.

Under the deal, Stabilis will supply firm LNG deliveries on a ratable basis from its small liquefaction facility in Texas over the two-year contract, it said in a statement.

The contract has an option to extend it for up to an additional two years at the request of Carnival, Stabilis said.

The firm did not provide any additional information regarding the deal.

Carnival Jubilee is setting sail from Galveston, Texas beginning in December 2023, Stabilis said.

In July, Germany’s Meyer Werft floated out the LNG-powered vessel owned by Miami-based Carnival Cruise Line, a unit of Carnival.

According to Meyer Weft, the vessel arrived in the Dutch port of Eemshaven from its facility in Papenburg on Tuesday.

The shipbuilder started building this LNG-powered ship in March last year and held a keel-laying ceremony in July.

In December last year, Meyer Werft delayed delivery of the LNG-powered vessel for about two months due to supply chain logistics and related matters.

The vessel is part of Carnival’s Excel-class design first delivered by the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

Meyer Turku delivered Mardi Gras in 2020, followed by Carnival Celebration in 2022.
