SSES and CMA CGM wrap up another Shanghai LNG bunkering op

Shanghai SIPG Energy Service (SSES) has completed another bunkering operation to a CMA CGM containership with the large LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Wei Lai.

In January, French shipping giant CMA CGM joined forces with China’s terminal operator Shanghai International Port (SIPG) to fuel its LNG-powered container vessels.

SSES is a unit of SIPG and Shenergy and uses the 20,000-cbm Hai Gang Wei Lai to fuel CMA CGM vessels in Yangshan port, Shanghai.

In March, SSES completed the first LNG bunkering operation under this deal to CMA CGM Symi.

According to a statement by SSES, the LNG bunkering vessel has this year in total completed 27 operations delivering 132,948 cbm of LNG.

The latest operation took place on December 29 and Hai Gang Wei Lai delivered about 4,000 cbm of LNG to the 2022-built containership CMA CGM Dignity.

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy delivered the LNG-powered 15,260-teu CMA CGM Dignity in February this year to owner Eastern Pacific Shipping and charterer CMA CGM.

Besides this operation, Hai Gang Wei Lai supplied LNG to this vessel in July as well.

The LNG bunkering vessel, operated by Hong Kong-based shipping firm Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, is one of the world’s largest LNG bunkering ships along its sister ship Avenir Achievement.

Earlier this year, London-based small-scale player Avenir LNG sold this vessel, previously named Avenir Allegiance, to SSES.
