SSES completes 30th Shanghai LNG bunkering operation

Shanghai SIPG Energy Service (SSES) has completed the 30th operation to a CMA CGM containership with the large LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Wei Lai.

During the operation on January 21, the 20,000-cbm Hai Gang Wei Lai delivered about 6,048 cbm of LNG to the 23,000-teu CMA CGM Montmartre in Yangshan port, Shanghai, according to a statement by SSES.

CMA CGM took delivery of this giant LNG-powered containership, one of the nine ULCVs, from China’s Jiangnan Shipyard in March 2021.

The 400 meters long ship features WinGD’s dual-fuel engines and GTT’s 18,600-cbm fuel tank and serves CMA CGM’s Europe-Asia route.

In January last year, CMA CGM joined forces with China’s terminal operator Shanghai International Port (SIPG) to fuel its LNG-powered container vessels.

SSES is a unit of SIPG and Shenergy and uses Hai Gang Wei Lai to fuel CMA CGM vessels in Yangshan port.

In March last year, SSES completed the first LNG bunkering operation under this deal to CMA CGM Symi.

This was also the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering to a large containership in the Shanghai port and the first such operation for any port in China.

This newest operation to CMA CGM Montmartre marks the 30th ship-to-ship operation for Hai Gang Wei Lai, SSES said.
