Dynagas FSRU starts charter with Deutsche ReGas

LNG terminal operator Deutsche ReGas has taken over the charter of the 174,000-cbm FSRU Transgas Power, owned by Dynagas, which it plans to install to serve the planned FSRU-based LNG import terminal in the German port of Mukran.

In June, the German firm led by Ingo Wagner and Stephan Knabe signed a deal with the German government to sub-charter the vessel delivered in 2021 by Hudong-Zhonghua.

Deutsche ReGas announced on Friday it has recently become the charterer of the unit with a regasification capacity of up to 7.5 bcm per year.

As previously agreed, the Lubmin-based company now assumes the rights and obligations of the head charter contract between Germany and Dynagas.

In particular, this also applies to all costs incurred, such as the full charter rate, Deutsche ReGas said.

FSRU to serve as LNG carrier until Mukran terminal launch

Transgas Power is one of the two FSRUs planned for the terminal ‘Deutsche Ostsee’ in Mukran.

Already this winter 2023/24 the vessel will be moored at the designated berth 12 in the industrial port of Mukran and put into operation as an FSRU, Deutsche ReGas said.

Until then, Transgas Power will be chartered out and used as an LNG carrier.

“Her first LNG cargo is already on its way to the Baltic Sea and is expected to arrive at the LNG terminal in Lubmin at the end of next week,” Deutsche ReGas said.

Wagner said in the statement that the delivery of the FSRU marks “another important step” towards the realization of FSRU-based LNG terminal in Mukran.

“Together with our partners, we are pleased to have found this interim solution until the FSRU is operational. This means that we can already use the vessel, which is only two years old, to stabilize the security of supply for natural gas,” Wagner said.

Up to 13.5 bcm per year

LNG Prime recently reported that the FSRU was on its way to Lubmin after it visited Sempra’s Cameron LNG terminal in Louisiana.

This FSRU will work along the FSRU Neptune in Mukran as part of the second phase of the LNG terminal with a capacity of up to 13.5 bcm per year.

Deutsche Regas plans to move the FSRU Neptune from Lubmin to the Mukran port later this year.

The firm officially launched its Lubmin FSRU-based LNG import terminal, first private LNG terminal in Germany, in January this year.

Deutsche ReGas chartered the 2009-built 145,000-cbm, FSRU Neptune, from French energy giant TotalEnergies for this project.
