A unit of China’s GNG Ocean Shipping has ordered fifty small LNG-powered bulk carriers that will be deployed on the Pearl River in Guangdong province.
Zhujiang Shipping, a unit of state-owned GNG Ocean, picked China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guijiang Shipbuilding to build the bulkers, according to a tender document.
Besides Guijiang, two other Chinese yards placed their bids to build the vessels, the document shows.
The deal has a price tag of about 659 million yuan ($101 million).
In addition, Guijiang will build twenty-five 2,000 dwt vessels and the same amount of 3,000 dwt carriers.
All the vessels will feature only LNG propulsion, the document said.
