Gasum to supply LNG to Wasaline ferry, Wartsila tech hub

Finland-based Gasum said it has signed a deal to supply LNG to compatriot’s Wasaline ferry but also to Wartsila’s new technology hub.

The LNG supplier signed the deal with the City of Vaasa, Wasaline’s parent company NLC Ferry, and Wartsila.

In addition, Gasum aims to build a local terminal in Vaskiluoto from where trucks would take LNG to customer sites, it said.

To remind, Finland’s Rauma Marine Constructions builds the new LNG-powered car and passenger ferry Aurora Botnia for Wasaline and the vessel should start operations later this year.

The ferry will operate between Vaasa and Umea in Sweden.

On the other side, Warstila’s new Smart Technology Hub, a place for research, product development and engineering, should launch in the fall, according to Gasum.

Wartsila will develop LNG engines and other maritime technology at the Vaasa site.

Besides the new ferry and the hub, Gasum says it would also serve other customers via the new terminal in Vaskiluoto.
