World’s largest LNG bunkering vessel fuels CMA CGM Dignity in Shanghai

The world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Wei Lai, continues to fuel CMA CGM vessels in China’s Yangshan port, as part of a deal SIPG signed with the French giant in January.

On July 10, the 20,000-cbm bunkering and supply ship, previously known as Avenir Allegiance, delivered LNG to the 2022-built containership CMA CGM Dignity, Shanghai SIPG Energy Service said in a statement.

SSES, a unit of China’s terminal operator Shanghai International Port (SIPG) and Shenergy, said the bunkering vessel delivered about 5,833 cbm of LNG during the operation.

The firm noted that the LNG bunkering operation took place during a heat wave in Shanghai with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius.

Besides bunkering LNG, the container vessel also simultaneously completed loading and unloading of containers.

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy delivered the LNG-powered 15,260-teu CMA CGM Dignity in February this year to owner Eastern Pacific Shipping and charterer CMA CGM, according to VesselsValue data.

Prior to this operation, SSES bunkered at least three vessels. These include CMA CGM Patagonia, as well as CMA CGM Symi and CMA CGM Liberty, which CMA CGM charters from Singapore’s EPS.

As prevoulsy mentioned, SIPG and CMA CGM signed the 10-year bunkering deal in January under which SSES fuels CMA CGM’s 15,000-teu vessels with the new LNG bunkering vessel in Yangshan port.
