Wah Kwong takes over management of world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel

Hong Kong-based shipping firm Wah Kwong Maritime Transport said it has taken over the management of the world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Wei Lai.

The 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessel was taken over by Wah Kwong’s management team on August 20 at Shanghai, China, according to a social media post.

“This is a proud moment for Wah Kwong as this is the first LNG carrier in the fleet,” the firm said.

Wah Kwong did not provide any additional information.

This is the world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel along its sister ship Avenir Achievement.

Earlier this year, London-based small-scale player Avenir LNG sold this vessel, previously named Avenir Allegiance, to a joint venture consisting of China’s terminal operator Shanghai International Port (SIPG) and Shenergy.

Shanghai SIPG Energy Service (SSES), a unit of SIPG and Shenergy uses this vessel to bunker CMA CGM’s containerships under a 10-year LNG bunkering deal.

SSES now regularly fuels CMA CGM’s LNG-powered containerships in Shanghai.
