Gasum: Coralius completes 500th LNG bunkering op

Finnish state-owned energy firm Gasum said that the company’s chartered LNG bunkering vessel Coralius had completed its 500th ship-to-ship operation.

“Despite challenging market conditions, Gasum has last week successfully performed the 500th ship-to-ship LNG bunker operation with its LNG bunker vessel Coralius,” the firm said in a social media post on Monday.

LNG prices surged this year but the LNG bunkering industry keeps growing and there are more than 840 in operation or ordered LNG-powered ships.

Gasum charters the 5,800-cbm Coralius from Anthony Veder and Sirius Shipping.

Since it started operation in 2017, the bunkering vessels has supported a high variety of different LNG-fueled vessels such as cruise vessels, ferries, crane vessels, product tankers, containerships, and others in their quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Gasum said.

For all these operations, Gasum performed compatibility studies, developed specific safety procedures, and obtained permits for in port and offshore locations from the relevant authorities, it said.

Earlier this year, Gasum secured a distribution license to supply LNG to maritime customers in Belgium, expanding its supply network in Northwestern European ports and waters.

Gasum and Singapore’s Pavilion Energy recently also joined forces with China’s CNOOC Gas and Power on LNG bunkering in Singapore, Europe, and China.

Gasum’s fleet currently includes five chartered LNG bunkering vessels, namely Coralius, Kairos, Coral EnergICE, Coral Energy, and Seagas, according to its website.
