GSI bags order for three more LNG-powered PCTCs

China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) will build three LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers under a new deal revealed this week.

GSI said in a statement it signed a shipbuilding deal on March 16 with an unidentified Asian owner for three dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of 8,600 units.

The shipbuilder said this is another order of the same vessel type after the signing of the three 8,600-ceu dual-fuel carriers with South Korea’s H-Line.

H-Line will charter these LNG-powered PCTCs to Hyudai Glovis.

GSI did not provide the name of the owner or the price tag of the new contract.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that South Korean shipping firm HMM is behind this order for the three new LNG-powered PCTCs.

Moreover, each of the PCTCs are said to be worth about $100 million and one source said that GSI is expected to deliver the vessels in 2026.

25 LNG dual-fuel PCTCs

The 8,600-ceu vessels will have an overall length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a design draft of 9.2 meters, and a design speed of 19 knots, according to GSI.

With this deal, GSI says it now has 25 LNG-powered PCTCs on order, ranking first in the world.

The shipbuilder recently also won an order from Cosco Shipping’s JV for three LNG dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of 7,000 units.

Besides Cosco, GSI’s other contracts for LNG dual-fuel carriers include orders from Norway’s SFL and China’s BYD Group.
