Avenir bunkers TT-Line’s LNG ferries in Sweden’s Trelleborg

Small-scale player Avenir LNG has started deliveries of liquefied natural gas to two RoPax ferries owned by Germany’s TT-Line in the Swedish port of Trelleborg.

According to a social media post by Avenir LNG, the 7,500-cbm LNG bunkering and supply vessel, Avenir Ascension, delivered LNG to TT-Line’s RoPax ferries, Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, in the Swedish port on April 15 and April 16.

With this, Trelleborg becomes the third port that Avenir LNG has served TT-Line’s LNG/bio-LNG requirements, after already completing operations in Pengerang, Malaysia and Lubeck, Germany, Avenir LNG said.

“It’s good to see that the network of LNG and bio-LNG bunker locations is growing and that TT Line and Avenir have been able to establish a partnership, which is now extended to other locations as well,” Jan Schubert, Avenir LNG’s commercial director for LNG bunkering, said.

In April last year, German ferry operator TT-Line started using its 230 meters long LNG-powered RoPax ferry, Nils Holgersson, in the Baltic Sea.

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing delivered this vessel to the owner during a ceremony held on March 7.

Furthermore, the Chinese yard delivered the sister ship, Peter Pan, in November last year.

TT Line said at the end of January this year that this LNG-powered vessel was ready to start operations in the Baltic Sea.

The vessels feature MAN dual-fuel engines but they also each have two 500-cbm type C LNG tanks, according to TT-Line.

Based on TT-Line’s ‘Green Ship’ design, they have the capacity for 800 passengers and over 200 vehicles.
