Rauma launches Tallink’s LNG-powered ferry

Finland’s Rauma Marine Constructions will today launch a new LNG-powered ferry for Estonia’s shipping firm Tallink.

The yard said it would hold a christening and float-out ceremony for the vessel later on Thursday.

Rauma started building the LNG-powered shuttle vessel named MyStar in April last year and plans to deliver the ferry at the beginning of 2022.

Once delivered, MyStar will operate on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, connecting the capitals of Estonia and Finland.

Rauma says that despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the global economic situation the construction of the vessel goes on schedule.

Over the past year, it has laid the keel and installed the vessel’s MAN dual-fuel main engines and LNG tanks.

The ferry is 212 meters long and has a space to accommodate about 3000 passengers and up to 750 vehicles.

In total, the shipbuilding project is worth around 250 million euros ($293.2 million).
